Term 5, 2023

In the first part of a two-term landscape painting course in August 2023, students shifted from grid-based techniques to honing their observation and freehand drawing skills. They began by creating a loose acrylic underpainting as the foundation and had the choice of using oil or acrylic paints to put colour into their landscapes. Students also completed their previous terms projects of people portraits and pet portraits.

Progress pictures

Presented below is a collection of work-in-progress artworks from Term 5. Students initiated their canvas artwork by applying a preliminary layer in burnt umber, a rich dark brown hue. Before commencing work on their canvas, they undertook a practice sketch on paper, ensuring they were well-prepared for their creative journey.
